Your surgical care
What to expect
Your appointments will depend on your diagnosis and treatment. This is a general guide to consultation, preparation and follow-up.
What to expect
Appointments and procedures
- 1
Consultation
We review your symptoms, records and previous treatment, then discuss the options. We may recommend more tests, nonsurgical treatment, a procedure or another specialist.
- 2
Preparation
Before a procedure, we review your health, medications and test results with the anesthesia team. We’ll discuss anything that needs attention first, along with preparation, transport, recovery and insurance authorization.
- 3
Procedure
Some procedures can be done in the office. Those requiring a hospital operating room, additional monitoring or an inpatient stay take place at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital with VSS clinicians who hold privileges there.
- 4
Recovery and follow-up
Before you leave, your clinical team will explain how to care for yourself at home and whom to call. At follow-up, we review your recovery, discuss results and check any wound or other concerns.
